Tesco cat gets cruelly evicted from its spot in the store, the customers and all his friends protest immediately and get him returned back to where he belongs: 'Shoppers rallied behind the celebrity grocery cat'

Freddie the Tesco cat is an icon in his community, but for a moment, Tesco underestimated just how important he was to his friends, and they banned him. Except the community protested, and his ban did not last long.

People who are not cat lovers really don't understand just how important cats are to us, the people. Everywhere we go, if there is a cat, people around him are smiling. Maybe not everyone, but a lot of them. Because it's hard not to. Cats are just… cute, and people smile at them. And if the cat is friendly, which Freddie very much is, then people truly cannot resist the cuteness.

Of course, there is Buster the junkyard cat, who walked in one day, never left, and became one of the reasons that people come to the yard. There is Indy the museum cat, who has become an icon not only in her community but online as well. And nearly everyone knows about bodega cats. Those are all iconic in their communities. They are part of our world, and we love having them in it. Freddie was less famous online among all of these cats, but he's on par with them now, after the protesting that people did when he was evicted from Tesco.

Cats are such important pillars in our communities, and that is not an exaggeration. Everywhere we go, if there is a cat, there are smiles on people's faces. And anyone who thinks that there will be an outcry of joy when these cats are removed is completely removed from society. Getting Freddie out of Tesco was like stopping the sun from shining on a summer day. It was unacceptable. And his owner agrees. “Freddie has his routine and he enjoys going to see people at Tesco,” she said, according to Lincolnshire World. “I’m not going to keep him in.”

We cannot say that we are even a little bit surprised that people protested against this. Because if this happened to one of our community kitties, we would have done the exact same thing. And we know that the people in our community would have signed along with us. Cats matter. No one can just get rid of them. The people did the right thing, the only right thing, and we applaude each and every single one that did. Because Freddie is officially back at Tesco, where he wants to be, greeting all of his friends at the door.
